Search Console Social Media Reports in Practice

Since July 2026, Search Console has shown how content on Instagram, TikTok, YouTube and X shows up in Google Search and Discover - clicks, impressions, position, and which specific posts are driving that traffic. We broke down the launch itself in our guide to the new Search Console reports; this piece focuses on what the data actually means once you start using it.

Setup and first steps

In the Search Console interface, choose the "Platform property" type and the specific platform - Instagram, TikTok, X or YouTube. Ownership verification runs through the standard process. Data accumulates gradually: Google states a window of up to 48 hours before the first statistics show up.

Three reports and what each one shows in practice

Performance report - clicks, impressions, average CTR and position for the account overall, filterable by search type (web, image, video, news). That filter is what lets you see which specific posts are actually driving traffic, rather than one combined number.

Insights report - a view of traffic trends, top content, and exactly how people are finding the account through Google: direct search or Discover, the personalized feed.

Milestones - tracks growth and click thresholds over the last 28 days.

What changes in day-to-day decisions

Previously, content creators worked off internal platform analytics alone - views, likes, reach inside Instagram or TikTok - with no way to know whether real Google search traffic was reaching a specific post. That gap is now closed directly inside Search Console.

The practical value is seeing exactly when a specific video or post starts gaining traction in Google - not just through active search, but through Discover, where the system recommends content based on user interest regardless of whether someone follows the account. That gives a concrete basis for decisions: which post to turn into a full article on the site, which topic to cross-promote on other channels.

A practical example

If the Insights report shows a sharp jump in impressions for one video coming through Discover, that is a signal the topic is resonating beyond the channel's usual audience. The logical move is to quickly produce related content on the same topic while interest is active, and link it to material already on the main site.

What this means for the US market

For US brands and creators running several platforms at once, this is the first direct way to compare which platform and which content format actually drive Google traffic, without a third-party analytics tool. It is especially useful for topics published in parallel on social media and as a site article - you can see directly which format performs better in Google search specifically.

One more practical detail: the Milestones data (click thresholds over 28 days) doubles as a simple progress marker for client or leadership reporting - a concrete number that does not need to be pieced together manually from scattered sources.
